On May 15, 2010, Alexis Ketelboeter threw out the first pitch at the 20th annual DARE Day game hosted by the Milwaukee Brewers. An Ellsworth 5th grader, Alexis earned this honor with her winning essay about what she learned in DARE. When word came that Alexis was a finalist, Officer Steve approached Sheriff Hove about giving students the opportunity to attend DARE Day. 100 tickets were purchased and arrangements were made with the Ellsworth School District for two buses to transport DARE students and their families to Milwaukee. A rate was set for participants to cover the cost of transportation, attending a pre-game party and admission to the game.
Officer Steve received word just a few weeks before the game that Alexis had won the essay contest and would be throwing out the first pitch, On game day, Alexis and the other Ellsworth participants had a great time at the pre-game party. Then she was led onto the field where she met Brewer back-up catcher George Kottaras who received her pitch. The pitch was a strike!
